Hasib alleged that students and members of the public were being harassed in the name of police verification and called for an immediate end to the practice.
“The politicization of primary teacher recruitment and the exclusion of qualified candidates must be reversed immediately,” he said.
He called for candidates allegedly excluded on political grounds or because of their political views to be reinstated. He also said affiliation with an organization linked to a ruling party should neither be used to deny nor secure employment, and that recruitment should be based on merit.
“If you do not turn back from this path of politicization, we know how to remove you from power,” Hasib said.
He urged the government to uphold what he described as the spirit of the July mass uprising and build a state based on equality and free from discrimination.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka University unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir also called for an end to alleged harassment and discrimination against candidates during government recruitment under the guise of police verification.
In a statement issued Friday, the organization demanded an impartial investigation into allegations of political discrimination and deprivation in recruitment, appropriate remedies for affected candidates, and a transparent, merit-based recruitment process.
The Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) separately called for prompt action regarding candidates who have yet to receive appointment letters for primary school teaching posts and demanded an end to harassment during the verification process.
