Japanese automotive giant Toyota Motor Corporation is set to invest nearly $40 million (around Tk500 crore) in Bangladesh to establish two centres for vehicle sales, servicing and spare parts, marking its first direct operational presence in the country.

The two 3S centres will be set up in Dhaka and Chattogram, with construction expected to begin in November 2026, according to the Invest Bangladesh Authority.

Nahian Rahman Rochi, a member of Invest Bangladesh, told media that the investment had been confirmed this month and that sites for both centres had already been identified.

A 3S centre brings vehicle sales, servicing and spare parts under one roof, allowing customers to access all three services at a single location.

Toyota has so far operated in Bangladesh through local dealers and distributors. The planned centres will mark a shift towards direct operations in the country.

Rochi said the authority had been working to bring the investment to Bangladesh for the past five to six months.

Meanwhile, Toyota Tsusho Corporation is planning to develop a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) manufacturing industry in Bangladesh, with work scheduled to begin in 2027 and full-scale production targeted for 2029.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the initiative will follow a “with Bangladesh, for Bangladesh” development philosophy.

The announcement came after Prime Minister Tarique Rahman met a high-level Toyota Tsusho delegation led by Vice Chairman Ichiro Kashitani at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Secretariat on October 6.
