Bangladesh’s shipping sector is poised to attract fresh foreign investment as UAE-based Equline Finance has expressed interest in investing in the country’s shipbuilding, port development, logistics and maritime transport industries.
The investment interest was conveyed during a meeting between State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Rajib Ahsan and a high-level delegation from Equline Finance at the Secretariat on Monday.
The meeting focused on expanding Bangladesh’s shipbuilding industry, modernising the country’s maritime transport system, enhancing logistics capacity and improving port management.
The delegation highlighted investment opportunities centred on the ports of Chattogram, Mongla, Payra and Matarbari. It also discussed plans for infrastructure development, the supply of ocean-going vessels and the introduction of advanced technologies to strengthen Bangladesh’s maritime sector.
State Minister Rajib Ahsan said the government is committed to attracting international investment in the country’s shipping and port sectors.
“Such investments will play a significant role in expanding trade, creating employment opportunities and promoting the growth of Bangladesh’s blue economy,” he said.
Both sides also underscored the importance of strengthening economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Arab Emirates.
Officials expressed optimism that the proposed investment initiative would open new opportunities for the country’s maritime economy, improve port management and accelerate the development of the domestic shipbuilding industry.a
