The US Embassy in Dhaka has issued a cyclone preparedness advisory for American citizens living in or traveling to Bangladesh as the country enters the cyclone season.

In a message issued on Monday, the embassy urged US citizens to take precautionary measures and follow several safety recommendations to prepare for potential storms.

The embassy advised US nationals to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov to receive weather alerts and other important updates from the US Embassy.

It also encouraged citizens to have an emergency plan in place, including how to stay safe if flights are unavailable during a storm and how to keep in touch with family and loved ones.

They were also urged to discuss in advance what to do in the event of a cyclone or other emergency.

The embassy further recommended preparing an emergency kit and keeping essential items in a waterproof plastic bag, including passports, important documents, prescription medications, and local currency.

In addition, it advised carrying a portable phone charger, a flashlight, and an adequate supply of drinking water and other essential items to ensure preparedness during emergencies.
