A total of Tk 12.125 million (Tk 1 crore 21 lakh 25 thousand) belonging to a filling station was allegedly looted in Uttara, Dhaka, while the money was being taken to a bank for deposit.
The incident occurred at around 10:30am on Sunday (August 9) near the southern side of the RAB-1 Battalion in the Airport Police Station area.
According to the police and the filling station authorities, the money was being transported in a covered van when several unidentified men riding three motorcycles intercepted the vehicle.
The attackers allegedly rammed the van, blocked its path and used sharp weapons to threaten the occupants before fleeing with the cash.
The money represented two days of sales because banks were closed on Friday and Saturday.
The filling station reportedly conducts daily transactions of around Tk 45–50 lakh and normally deposits its daily proceeds at a nearby bank between 10am and 10:30am.
The station manager, Karim, filed a case with Airport Police Station against unidentified individuals.
Police said they are investigating whether the robbers had prior information about the station’s cash-transfer schedule and route.
Authorities are working to identify and arrest those involved and recover the stolen money.
