The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has seized another consignment of the uncommon drug ‘kush’ at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka and arrested two Indian nationals in connection with the incident.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Abdul Rahman, 46, and Mohammad Iqbal Ansari, 45, residents of West Bengal, India. According to a DNC press release, 5.12 kilograms of kush was recovered from their possession.

Acting on intelligence, DNC officials took position at the Green Channel in the airport’s arrival hall at around 1pm on Thursday. The two Indian nationals arrived from Bangkok on a Thai Airways flight and were stopped on suspicion.

Officials searched their travel trolleys in the presence of personnel from various agencies working at the airport and recovered 5.12 kilograms of kush. Two Indian passports, $500, 10,000 Indian rupees and three smartphones were also seized.

A case has been filed against the two Indian nationals under the Narcotics Control Act with Airport Police Station. DNC Airport Circle Inspector Shahriya Sharmin filed the case.

The DNC described kush as a highly potent and dangerous synthetic drug.

Several consignments of the drug have been seized at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in recent weeks.

On August 18, the DNC seized 4.18 kilograms of kush. Two Indian nationals, Akash Dubey and Akash Pandey, allegedly linked to the shipment, fled the airport after leaving behind their travel trolleys and photocopies of their passports. A case was filed against them with Airport Police Station.
