414 held in 24-hr Dhaka anti-crime drive

DHAKA: The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 414 people in the capital during its regular anti-drug and crime prevention operations over the past 24 hours. A total of 59 cases were filed at different police stations during the operations.

According to the DMP, 28 people were arrested in the Ramna division, 35 in Lalbagh, 66 in Wari, 54 in Motijheel, 61 in Tejgaon, 81 in Mirpur, 25 in Gulshan, 48 in Uttara and 16 by the Detective Branch.

During the operations, police recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, five rounds of ammunition, a foreign-made revolver and four rounds of revolver ammunition.

They also seized 21,672 yaba tablets, 2.735kg of cannabis, 20 grams of heroin and 30 packets of heroin. In addition, 324 mobile phones, nine tablets, six trunks and Tk 9,570 in cash were recovered. One victim was also rescued during the operations.

The DMP said the arrests and recoveries were made during separate raids conducted in different areas of the capital.

Legal proceedings, including filing cases against the arrested individuals at the relevant police stations, are underway, the DMP said.
