A group of masked men allegedly attacked, vandalised and looted the main warehouse and office of AJR Courier Service in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh, threatening to force the company to pay land rent to listed top criminal Sanjidul Islam Imon, according to officials.
The attack took place around 6:30pm on Tuesday near Shikder Medical College.
,The attackers allegedly entered the premises after disabling nearby CCTV cameras and threatened security personnel.
They reportedly took away several laptops, CCTV cameras and a digital video recorder (DVR) used to store surveillance footage, while vandalising office furniture.
Company officials said AJR Courier Service had leased the land from Shikder Group about two years ago and had been paying rent under an agreement.
However, the attackers claimed they had reached an understanding with the landowner and demanded that future rent be paid to Imon.
They threatened to prevent the company from operating if it failed to comply.
The warehouse reportedly handles goods transportation across the country through around 400 vehicles daily.
The company’s operations have remained suspended following the attack.
Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mosharraf Hossain said police reached the scene after receiving a call through the national emergency service 999.
Police are investigating the incident, he added.
