Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan has said the government wants to ensure balanced development across all 503 upazilas, irrespective of political affiliation or geographical location.

He said no upazila should receive development facilities at the expense of its neighbouring areas, stressing that elected representatives must implement development programmes in the interests of people across the country.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion titled “Formulating Strategies for Installing Solar Power in Urban and Rural Areas through Cooperative Societies” as the chief guest at the Multipurpose Hall of the Cooperative Bhaban in Agargaon on Saturday.

State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam was also present at the event.

Moyeen Khan said government officials were not merely employees but public servants responsible for serving the people.

He said the government was considering proper evaluation of their work and adjustments to their salaries and allowances in line with the cost of living.

Although limited resources made it impossible to implement all plans at once, the government would seek to carry them out in phases over the next few years, he said.

Emphasising the role of government officials in implementing development plans at the grassroots level, the minister said ensuring that ordinary people benefited from government initiatives must be the primary objective of both public representatives and government officials.
