Japan is expected to arrange private-sector investments worth $6.35 billion in Bangladesh over the next five years, aiming to strengthen economic ties and expand industrial cooperation between the two countries.

According to reports by Japan’s Nikkei Asia newspaper, the investment plan is expected to be reflected in a joint statement following a summit between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during his visit to Japan.

The proposed investment is expected to cover the automobile and other manufacturing industries, as well as the development of energy facilities.

Japanese companies are also expected to invest in the Bangladesh Special Economic Zone, which is being developed with the involvement of Japanese trading house Sumitomo Corporation.

The initiative is expected to help attract foreign investment, expand manufacturing capacity, create employment opportunities and strengthen Bangladesh’s energy infrastructure.

The two countries have been working to deepen economic cooperation, with Bangladesh seeking greater Japanese investment in infrastructure, technology, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.

The proposed investment arrangement marks a potential boost to bilateral economic ties, although the details will depend on the formal announcement and implementation of the plan.
