Primary teacher recruitment to begin in October

The government is set to break the long-standing recruitment deadlock in primary education, with 14,384 recommended assistant teachers expected to begin joining government primary schools from October.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education made the announcement following an emergency virtual meeting on Saturday, aiming to resolve months of uncertainty surrounding the appointments.

Primary and Mass Education Secretary Shakhawat Hossain said the government is giving top priority to completing the recruitment process, which had been delayed due to investigations and procedural complexities.

“The joining process will begin by October 30,” he confirmed.

More than 175 days have passed since the publication of the final results, yet the selected candidates have not received their appointment letters. The prolonged delay had sparked frustration among job seekers, who had earlier demanded that a joining notification be issued by July 29.

After the deadline passed without any official notice, the candidates announced plans to launch continuous sit-in demonstrations at Shahbagh from Sunday.

The ministry’s latest move is expected to ease tensions and bring relief to thousands of aspiring teachers awaiting placement in the country’s primary education system.
