Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered one of the biggest box office debuts in cinema history, earning an estimated $927 million worldwide during its opening weekend and setting multiple records for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.

The Tom Holland and Zendaya-led superhero film collected $355 million from 4,487 theaters across North America, making it the second-largest domestic opening weekend of all time, narrowly behind Avengers: Endgame, which debuted with $357.1 million in 2019. The final ranking could still change if Sunday ticket sales exceed studio projections.

Internationally, the film earned $572 million from 66 markets, bringing its global opening total to $927 million—the second-biggest worldwide launch ever, trailing only Avengers: Endgame’s record-breaking $1.2 billion debut.

The film also set several new box office records, including Sony Pictures’ biggest opening weekend. It earned $72 million in Thursday previews, surpassing Endgame’s previous record of $60 million, and posted a record $168 million opening Friday in North America. Saturday receipts reached $101.5 million, the second-highest single-day Saturday total on record.

Sony Pictures Chairman Tom Rothman credited the film’s success to its strong storytelling and the enduring popularity of the Spider-Man character.

“There hasn’t been a Spider-Man film in five years, so scarcity has value. The audience has a deep connection with this character, and the story is one that resonates with everyone,” Rothman said.

The film easily surpassed the opening weekend of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $260.1 million domestically and $587.2 million globally in 2021 before going on to gross $1.9 billion worldwide.

Produced by Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal, Brand New Day was made on a reported $225 million budget. The audience skewed younger, with 36% of moviegoers aged 18-24, while 61% of viewers were male.

The blockbuster debut comes at a time when superhero films have faced questions over audience fatigue, following several recent underperforming comic book releases. Industry analysts say the film’s outstanding opening provides a major boost for Marvel Studios ahead of the release of Avengers: Doomsday later this year.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film also stars Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, and Mark Ruffalo, and follows Peter Parker as he struggles with isolation before confronting a mysterious new enemy.
