Nineteen years after the release of Awarapan, director Nitin Kakkar has brought back the franchise with Awarapan 2, starring Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani. The film hit theatres on August 14 and has generated considerable nostalgia among fans of the original.

Directed by Mohit Suri, the 2007 action-crime film Awarapan remains memorable for its emotional storyline and popular songs such as Toh Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta.

The sequel has also received a positive response from audiences and critics, with Hashmi’s performance drawing particular attention.

Alongside the film’s reception, the reported remuneration of its stars has become a topic of discussion.

Emraan Hashmi, who reprises his role as Shivam Pandit, reportedly earned Rs 1.5-2 crore for the 2007 film. For Awarapan 2, he has reportedly been paid Rs 10-12 crore, equivalent to around Tk 12-15 crore. His remuneration has therefore increased several times over the past 19 years.

Disha Patani, who was not part of the original film, makes her debut in the franchise as Zara. She reportedly received Rs 5 crore, or more than Tk 6 crore, for the role.

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi has also joined the franchise for the first time, playing Nafisa Nawaz. She reportedly earned between Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore, equivalent to more than Tk 2.5-6 crore.

The remuneration of supporting actors, including Subhinder Vicky and Vijayant Kohli, was not available.

The sequel expands the story beyond the original, with Bangkok serving as the backdrop. The plot follows Shivam Pandit as he sets out to rescue a young girl from a human trafficking network, confronting armed criminals, powerful figures in the underworld and a web of betrayal.
