Shakib Khan’s long-delayed action thriller Operation Agnipath is set to resume production after remaining stalled for nearly nine years.
The film created a major buzz in Dhallywood in December 2016 when a 2-minute-9-second glimpse was released after the first phase of shooting in Australia. The project, however, was subsequently put on hold amid internal complications among its producers.
The film is now set for a fresh start. After returning to Bangladesh from New York, Shakib Khan held final discussions with producer Zane Alam and is expected to finalise the schedule for the second phase of shooting, following the Australia leg.
Shakib plans to complete his work on Soldier, the Eid-ul-Fitr release Nihshwo and his next Eid-ul-Azha project before travelling abroad for 25 consecutive days to shoot Operation Agnipath.
The film, directed by Ashiqur Rahman, will also feature several changes after its long production hiatus. Production company Vertex Media has reportedly recovered the previously shot footage and completed its editing and colour grading.
The storyline is also being revised with new twists to meet contemporary audience expectations, with major changes expected in the cast.
Shiva Ali Khan, who was previously attached to the project as the female lead, will remain in the film, while a new foreign actress is also being added. Misha Sawdagor, Taskin Rahman, Tiger Robi and Kabila are among the other actors expected to appear in important roles.
After overcoming the production hurdles, the makers are now preparing to bring the long-awaited action thriller to cinemas at a suitable time outside the Eid period in 2027.
