Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat has expressed regret after his official vehicle was sued for violating traffic rules and welcomed the action taken by the traffic police.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s traffic division filed the case against the minister’s vehicle and its driver on Thursday morning after the car was allegedly driven on the wrong side of the road on Circuit House Road in the capital.

Speaking to journalists at the entrance to the Jatiya Sangsad that night, Millat said heavy traffic near the Chief Justice’s residence had prompted his driver to cross a divider through a gap in the road.

He acknowledged that the move was a clear violation of traffic rules and publicly expressed regret over the incident.

The minister also said he was pleased that the traffic police had taken legal action against his vehicle and driver, stressing that the law must apply equally to everyone, regardless of position.

He said the action demonstrated that the rule of law was being upheld and would send a strong message that no one, including ministers or influential individuals, is above the law.
