Joint forces arrested 344 people during a four-hour block raid in four areas of Dhaka on Tuesday night as part of a crackdown on drugs, extortion, terrorism and juvenile gangs.

The operation began at 9pm on October 13 in Mohammadpur, Pallabi, Adabor and Gandaria, involving hundreds of members of the police, Detective Branch (DB), SWAT, Special Reserve Battalion (SRB), Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and dog squad.

Police said Pallabi recorded the highest number of arrests at 202, followed by Mohammadpur with 59, Adabor with 45 and Gandaria with 38.

During the raids, the joint forces recovered a foreign-made pistol, a single-shot gun, locally made weapons, ammunition and a large quantity of drugs.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said special operations would continue, stressing that juvenile gangs would not be allowed to operate in Mohammadpur and Pallabi.

Police said the detainees would be screened initially. Those facing specific cases would be sent to court, while others could face punishment through mobile courts.
