Additional Inspector General of Police (Additional IGP) Barrister Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain has officially assumed charge as the new chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He took over the responsibility at the CID headquarters in the capital on Wednesday. The development was confirmed by CID Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Taleb.
Mosharraf Hossain was appointed as the head of the CID through a notification issued by the Public Security Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs on June 28. Before assuming the post, he served as Director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI) on deputation, where he was promoted to the rank of Additional IGP.
A member of the 15th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Police Cadre, Mosharraf Hossain joined the Bangladesh Police in 1995 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). During his nearly three-decade-long career, he has held key positions in various units of the police force, gaining extensive experience in criminal investigation, intelligence, training and police administration.
He also played a significant role at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, where he was involved in training, research and curriculum development.
He previously served as Special Superintendent of Police at the CID headquarters and its Chattogram and Cumilla units, and also served successfully as Superintendent of Police in Pirojpur and Chapainawabganj districts.
In addition, he has worked in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Police Headquarters, and various units under the Rajshahi, Barishal, Rangpur, Khulna and Dhaka ranges.
Academically, Mosharraf Hossain earned a master’s degree in Economics from the Islamic University, Kushtia. He also completed the Bar-at-Law from City, University of London.
To strengthen his expertise in modern policing, criminal investigation and forensic science, he has attended numerous national and international training programmes, workshops and conferences, including a forensic laboratory course in Malaysia, a regional workshop in Pakistan and the 10th INTERPA Conference in Türkiye.
Senior CID officials, including Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), Additional DIGs, Superintendents of Police and Additional Superintendents of Police, attended the charge-taking ceremony and congratulated the newly appointed CID chief.
