Three teenage friends were killed after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a tree in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet on Sunday.
The accident occurred around 1:00pm on the Radhanagar–Baurbhag Tea Garden Road in Purba Jaflong Union.
Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Omar Faruk confirmed the incident.
The deceased were identified as Sakib, 16, son of Mohorom Mia of Noyabasti; Raihan, 16, son of Hobi Mia of Chhailakhel 8th Khand; and Joy, 16, son of Razzak of Lakherpar. All three were eighth-grade students at Jaflong Amir Mia High School and College.
According to police, the three teenagers were travelling on a single motorcycle toward Radhanagar Bazar at around 12:45pm when the rider lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into a roadside tree.
Sakib died at the scene. Raihan and Joy were rescued and taken to Nurjahan Hospital in Sylhet with critical injuries. Raihan died while undergoing treatment at around 7:00pm.
Joy was later transferred to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 9:00pm.
OC Md Omar Faruk said one of the teenagers died on the spot after the motorcycle hit the tree, while the other two later died in hospital. The bodies have been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
