Immigration services at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport were suspended for around 30 minutes on Wednesday due to a technical problem with the immigration police server, causing long queues and frustration among passengers.

According to airport sources, the main immigration server lost connectivity shortly after noon while regular operations were underway.

As the automated system became unavailable, immigration officials temporarily stopped checking passports and stamping them at the counters.

Hundreds of departing and arriving passengers gathered in long queues, with many expressing frustration after waiting for an extended period. Some passengers were also left uncertain about whether they would be able to board their flights on time.

The disruption created disorder at the airport and triggered anger among passengers.

Dhaka University professor Kazi Maruf also expressed his frustration over the situation. In a Facebook post, he said several thousand passengers had been stranded at the airport on an otherwise normal day because the server had gone down.

Airport authorities and immigration police attempted to keep some operations running manually to manage the situation. However, the manual process further contributed to the queues.

Immigration police sources said the disruption was caused by a technical fault. An engineering team began working to restore the system, and the server became operational again after around 30 minutes.

After the server was restored, immigration officials began processing passengers as quickly as possible to clear the backlog.
