President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has described the youth as the country’s main driving force, saying they must be empowered and equipped with job-oriented skills to take the nation forward.
“There is no alternative to the youth in moving the country forward. We must put the driving force in their hands and make them employment-oriented,” he said.
The president made the remarks at an event marking National Youth Day at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Centre in the capital on Sunday, November 1.
He urged young people to stand against all forms of discrimination and fight social ills through collective movements.
Calling for a shift away from politicising every issue towards constructive engagement, Mirza Fakhrul said politics should be centred on parliament rather than the streets.
“The fascist forces were removed through a movement, and a democratic government has been established. We must make use of this opportunity,” he said.
The president said political revolution alone could not bring about the country’s transformation. Building the nation through sustained efforts was necessary to take it forward, he added.
He also stressed the importance of sending educated and skilled workers abroad, saying it would help Bangladesh tap into international job markets.
The government is working towards that goal, he said.
