DHAKA: Dhallywood actress Pori Moni has been granted bail in a case filed over allegations of assault, vandalism and intimidation following a hearing at a Dhaka court on Thursday (November 5).
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Dhaka granted her bail.
On Wednesday (November 4), the court had scheduled the recording of witness testimony in the case. However, as Pori Moni failed to appear, Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman cancelled her bail and ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against her.
Her lawyer sought an adjournment, informing the court that she could not appear due to an illness caused by allergies. Meanwhile, the plaintiff’s side filed a petition seeking cancellation of the accused persons’ bail.
After hearing both sides, the court ordered an arrest warrant against Pori Moni.
A day after the warrant was issued, Pori Moni appeared at the court on Thursday morning accompanied by around 10 personal security guards.
Around 11am, she was seen waiting inside a white car on the premises of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. Security personnel dressed in black stood on both sides of her vehicle and were seen moving lawyers, journalists and litigants away from the car.
News of her presence drew crowds of curious onlookers to the court premises.
On January 26, 2025, the court framed charges against Pori Moni and two other accused in the case filed by businessman Nasir Uddin Mahmud and ordered the trial to begin. An arrest warrant had also been issued against her that day. She later surrendered before the court and secured bail.
Following an investigation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted a report in 2024, saying it had found evidence supporting the allegations against Pori Moni and her costume designer, Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, also known as Jim.
However, the report said the allegations against the third accused, Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni, were not substantiated.
On July 6, 2021, Nasir Uddin Mahmud, then president of the Boat Club and a businessman, filed the case against Pori Moni and two others. The other accused are Fatema Tuz Jannat Boni and Junaid Bogdadi Jimmy, also known as Jim.
According to the case statement, an altercation broke out between Nasir Uddin and Pori Moni and her associates when they visited the Boat Club in Savar on the night of June 9, 2021.
Nasir Uddin alleged that he was verbally abused and assaulted, and that a serving glass and a mobile phone were thrown at him. He reportedly sustained injuries to his head and chest. The complaint also included allegations of vandalism at the club and death threats.
