Ten people sustained burn injuries after an air conditioner exploded at a salon in the Alubazar area under Bangshal Police Station in Old Dhaka early Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 1:00am. The injured were rescued and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at about 1:30am.
The victims include customers Faruk (35), Rinku (30), Rony (36), Jasim (40) and Rafik (25), as well as salon employees Shamsed (30), Raju (34), Pappu (26), Arman (37) and Shakib (17).
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed the incident.
He said Shamsed suffered 15% burns, Faruk 50%, Rinku 21%, Raju 18%, Pappu 18%, Rony 10%, Jasim 8%, Arman 15%, Rafik 12%, and Shakib 1%.
According to the physician, nine of the injured were admitted to the institute for treatment, while Shakib, who sustained only 1% burns, was kept under observation in the emergency department.
The exact cause of the AC explosion could not be immediately determined.
