Toufique Imrose Khalidi, editor-in-chief of bdnews24.com and a pioneer of digital journalism in Bangladesh, was laid to rest at the Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard in Mirpur, Dhaka, on Saturday.

Friends, relatives, colleagues and well-wishers paid their final respects to Khalidi at the Banani Old DOHS playground, where his namaz-e-janaza was held at around 3:30pm. He was buried at the graveyard at 5pm.

Khalidi died in London on October 2 at the age of 59 following a brain haemorrhage. He had fallen ill while on a personal visit to the UK.

He began his journalism career in 1989 and worked for several leading media organisations, including The Daily Star, The Financial Express and BBC World Service.

He played a pioneering role in establishing bdnews24.com as Bangladesh’s first internet-based 24-hour news service, helping transform the country’s digital media landscape.
