President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to bring corrupt individuals to justice through impartial and proper investigations, regardless of their influence or status.

He made the remarks when an ACC delegation, led by its Chairman Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban on Thursday afternoon.

Other members of the delegation included Commissioner (Investigation) Dr Jahangir Alam Khan, Commissioner (Inquiry) Dr Md Sazzad Hossain Bhuiyan and Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan.

During the meeting, the ACC chairman briefed the president on the commission’s overall activities, ongoing initiatives, and the challenges it faces in carrying out its responsibilities. He also sought the president’s support to make the commission’s anti-corruption efforts more effective.

President Mirza Fakhrul said corruption had become one of Bangladesh’s major problems due to years of misgovernance, irregularities and a lack of accountability.

The country’s progress and a brighter future depend on effectively preventing and controlling corruption, he said, urging the ACC to continue working with integrity and courage.

The president also called on the commission to expedite the legal disposal of the large number of long-pending cases and reduce delays in the judicial process.

He directed the ACC to conduct swift investigations and take strict action in cases involving serious and large-scale corruption.
