A major disruption to Google Cloud services on Tuesday affected online banking, websites and digital platforms across the UK and other parts of Europe.
The outage originated in Google’s London-based `europe-west2` region, where a power-related incident disrupted multiple cloud services.
British digital bank Revolut was among the worst affected, with customers experiencing problems with card payments, ATM withdrawals and other banking services.
Lloyds Bank and HSBC also reported service disruptions, while delivery company DPD and the Royal Mail postal service experienced problems.
Google said its engineering teams were working to resolve the issue, and most affected services had returned to normal within around six hours.
Revolut assured customers that their money and personal data remained safe despite the disruption.
The incident has renewed concerns about the growing dependence of banks and digital businesses on a small number of cloud service providers.
