South Korean Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Kim Jung-kwan is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Monday to strengthen bilateral trade and investment cooperation between Bangladesh and South Korea.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to discuss the proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), expanding investment, and enhancing overall economic ties, according to diplomatic sources.

The South Korean minister will hold meetings with his Bangladeshi counterparts and senior government officials. He is also expected to meet business leaders and investors to explore new opportunities for economic collaboration.

Key areas of discussion will include Bangladesh’s ready-made garment sector, technology, electronics, infrastructure development, skilled workforce development, and increased South Korean investment in emerging industries.

Bangladesh and South Korea are currently negotiating the CEPA, with several rounds of talks already completed. The fifth round of negotiations was held in Seoul in July.

Diplomatic sources said deepening trade relations with South Korea has become increasingly important as Bangladesh prepares for its graduation from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category in 2026.

The visit is expected to create new opportunities for technology transfer, investment in high-value industries, and the expansion of Bangladesh’s export markets.

South Korea is one of Bangladesh’s key development and investment partners, with numerous South Korean companies operating in the country’s manufacturing and export-oriented sectors.
