Fans hoping to watch Lionel Messi’s Argentina take on Lamine Yamal’s Spain in Sunday’s World Cup final may have to pay a staggering price for a seat.
The final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, has become one of the most expensive sporting events to attend, with resale ticket prices soaring into the tens of thousands of dollars.
FIFA’s official resale platform listed its cheapest tickets on Saturday morning at $6,411.25, offering a mid-level view behind one of the goals. Those tickets were quickly sold out.
Tickets in the upper-deck corners were priced at nearly $10,000, while seats closer to the action were available for around $16,000. Premium hospitality packages were listed for nearly $60,000.
Other resale platforms, including SeatGeek and StubHub, also listed upper-deck tickets starting at around $10,000, with some lower-bowl seats approaching $35,000.
The high prices reflect the enormous global interest in a final featuring Messi, widely regarded as one of football’s greatest-ever players, against Yamal, one of the sport’s brightest young stars.
Argentina will be seeking its fourth World Cup title and second in succession.
No team has won back-to-back World Cups since Brazil triumphed in 1958 and 1962. Spain last lifted the trophy in 2010.
