Measles symptoms claim 4 more lives

Four more people died with measles-like symptoms across Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, raising the combined death toll from confirmed measles and suspected cases to 1,057 this year.

Of the total, 101 deaths have been confirmed as measles, while 956 deaths involved people with measles-like symptoms, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) health bulletin issued on Sunday.

The bulletin said two of the four deaths in the past 24 hours occurred in Dhaka division. During the same period, 1,236 new patients with measles or measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the country.

Dhaka recorded the highest number of new admissions at 513, followed by Chattogram with 284, Sylhet 145, Barishal 114, Khulna 70, Mymensingh 54, Rajshahi 30 and Rangpur 26.

According to the DGHS, a total of 179,814 patients with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals nationwide since March 15. Of them, 152,225 have recovered and been discharged.

Since March 15, the number of suspected measles cases has reached 175,198, including 20,562 confirmed cases.
