Bangladesh and the United Kingdom have agreed to strengthen cooperation in tackling climate change, focusing on climate adaptation, resilience, climate finance and renewable energy.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam met with Rachel Kyte, the UK’s Special Representative for Climate, in London on Thursday to discuss ways to expand bilateral cooperation.
Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK Muhammad Abdul Muhith was also present at the meeting.
The discussions covered access to climate finance, carbon markets, investment opportunities in the green and blue economy, and the transition to renewable energy.
Shama highlighted Bangladesh’s ongoing initiatives to strengthen climate resilience, promote renewable energy and encourage community participation in climate action.
Both sides also discussed the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women and children, opportunities for collaboration in climate-related technology and ways to translate global climate commitments into practical action.
The meeting also addressed priorities for the upcoming COP31, particularly climate finance, adaptation and enhanced international cooperation to tackle shared climate challenges.
