The United Kingdom will increase the financial requirements for international students applying for Student visas from November 30, 2026.
Under the revised rules, students planning to study in London will need to show £1,570 per month for living expenses, up from £1,529.
Those studying outside London will be required to demonstrate funds of £1,203 per month, compared with the current £1,171.
For courses lasting nine months or longer, students will need to show a maximum of £14,130 for living costs in London and £10,827 elsewhere in the UK.
The new requirements were introduced through the UK Home Office’s Statement of Changes to the Immigration Rules, published on September 3.
The date of visa application, rather than the course commencement date, will determine which financial requirements apply.
Applications submitted before November 30 will remain subject to the existing rules.
Students must demonstrate sufficient funds to cover living expenses for each month of their course, up to a maximum of nine months.
The required amount must be held for at least 28 consecutive days before applying.
The revised financial requirements will apply in addition to any outstanding tuition fees for the first academic year.
Students who have already paid accommodation fees directly to their university or college may deduct the eligible amount, subject to the applicable limit.
Applicants who have lived in the UK with valid immigration permission for at least 12 months before applying are generally exempt from the maintenance funds requirement.
