Delhi awaits PM Tarique’s India visit: Trivedi

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi said New Delhi is waiting for Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit India.

Trivedi made the remarks after paying a courtesy call on Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday (August 20).

During the meeting, the Indian high commissioner expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of nine Bangladeshi nationals in a hotel fire in Kolkata. He said the Indian government would take all necessary measures, including providing compensation and extending required assistance in connection with the tragic incident.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Health Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain said it was purely a courtesy meeting.

Asked whether they discussed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to India, the minister said there was no discussion on the matter.

However, he said the Indian high commissioner told him that New Delhi is waiting for the Bangladesh prime minister’s visit to India.
