Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in a joint drive with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), seized a large consignment of smuggled Indian medicines, sarees, and cosmetic products worth over Tk 3.24 crore from a covered van in Sylhet.

According to a BGB press release issued on Thursday, the operation was carried out in the Hetimganj area under Golapganj upazila on Wednesday afternoon.

Acting on a tip-off, a special patrol team from Bianibazar Battalion (52 BGB), led by Nayek Md Alamgir Hossain, along with a team from RAB-9, Sylhet, led by Sub-Inspector Md Ibrahim, conducted the joint operation at around 2:50 pm.

During the drive, law enforcers spotted a suspicious covered van and signalled it to stop. However, sensing their presence, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of smuggled goods, including 177,630 pieces of Indian medicines, 100 sarees, and various cosmetic products. Among the items seized were 80 pieces of ACNASOFT facewash, 100 bottles of KETODERM shampoo, 29 bottles of GLUSTER serum, 1,290 bottles of CODLI syrup, and 497 bottles of BONZIVA syrup.

The total estimated value of the recovered goods stands at Tk 32,494,050, the release said.

BGB officials added that legal proceedings in connection with the seizure are currently underway.
