Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that every citizen has the right to security regardless of religious identity, stressing the government’s commitment to building a welfare-oriented, safe and humane Bangladesh.

He made the remarks in a message issued on Friday (October 16) on the occasion of Durga Puja, extending greetings to members of the Hindu community in Bangladesh and around the world.

“Religion is individual, but the state belongs to everyone. Everyone has the right to security, regardless of religion,” the prime minister said.

He said equality, human dignity, social justice and the welfare of humanity were fundamental teachings shared by all religions.

He also stressed the importance of mutual respect, tolerance and compassion to maintain peace in society.

Referring to Bangladesh’s diverse religious and cultural traditions, Tarique Rahman said people of different faiths had long celebrated their religious festivals with enthusiasm, reflecting the country’s social values and cultural heritage.

He said the country had embarked on a renewed democratic journey and a major effort to rebuild the nation.

The government was committed to ensuring a safe and humane society for all citizens, irrespective of political views, religion or ethnicity.

The prime minister urged members of the Hindu community to celebrate Durga Puja across the country with joy, confidence and security, extending his greetings to them once again.
