Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that being Bangladeshi is the common identity of all citizens, regardless of their religion, caste, profession or ethnic background.

He made the remarks while exchanging greetings with members of the Hindu community after visiting a Durga Puja mandap at Dharmasabha (Radha Gobinda Temple) in Rajshahi on Tuesday.

The prime minister said all citizens enjoy equal rights under the Constitution and laws and are equally entitled to state-provided facilities and opportunities.

He said the government wanted to build a desired Bangladesh by bringing people of all faiths together, stressing that the country could not achieve overall development by leaving any community behind.

Extending greetings on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja, Tarique said the BNP considered everyone born and raised in Bangladesh a Bangladeshi citizen, regardless of religion or profession.

He called on people of all faiths to work together to build a prosperous and united Bangladesh, seeking everyone’s support and cooperation in achieving that goal.
